B. K. College of Art & Crafts was established in Bhubaneswar by the Government of Odisha, under the administrative control of the Department of Culture, in the academic year 1983-84. Bhubaneswar, the capital city, synthesizes the tradition and the modern in every facet of life and culture; thus provides a backdrop of centuries-old Artistic creativity reflects in its great temples and monuments. This induces an atmosphere of incessant art activity in the city. The college of Art and Crafts is dedicated in loving memory of Late Bibhuti Kanungo, an eminent painter, graphic designer, and art educationist of Odisha.

This institution stands in her own building of three-storied and an area of 4.200 acres. It is situated in the temple city and the historic site of art, architecture, religion, and culture. It is very close to the Jaina caves of Udayagiri and Khandagiri. It is well connected with road, railway, and air.

This is an institution for advanced training in visual art, leading to the Bachelor Degree in Fine Art of the Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar from 1983-84 to 1999-2000 and Utkal University of Culture from 2000-01 and continuing as such. The objective of the teaching programs and the training in the college is to achieve overall refinement of the student’s perception not confined to the technical skills of the profession alone, but also to create the right kind of intellect, as well as aesthetic and emotional cultivation to arrive at a level of composite creativity and thought.

Its academic program is broad-based. It introduces the students to all the necessary traditional and modern skills through studio courses and to the knowledge of art history and aesthetics through lectures, seminars, and exhibitions, and through lectures, seminars, and exhibitions and through various group activities, and a work atmosphere that combines informality with personal commitments. It seeks to develop in students the spirit of personal initiative, creativity, inner discipline, and awareness of their cultural environment.

Earlier it was affiliated to the Utkal University, Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar from 1983-84 to 1999-2000 and after the establishment of a new University i.e. Utkal University of Culture at Bhubaneswar again as per the Govt. Notification order, this College again affiliated to the Utkal University of Culture and continuing till date.

Courses

This institute provides 4 years B.V.A. course. Prerequisite qualification to the B.V.A Course is after +2 or its equivalent Examination. Out of 4 years, 1 year is the foundation course and the other 3 years are in specialization stream. Every part is examined by the University. At the end of 4 years, the Final certificate is given by the University.
